Nest Boxes

Since 1958 Field and Game Australia Members have been actively engaged in a range of conservation projects.  Firstly under the Victorian Field and Game banner, the Members have designed, installed and maintained nest boxes in more than 26 wetland environments.

Over the years, FGA Members have tried and tested dozens of nest box designs and a range of materials.  In recent years the “ideal” nest box for waterfowl species has been developed.  Just to ensure we don’t get complacent, our ideal design saw recent changes to the roof to further improve its ability to withstand the rigours of many years in Australian wetland conditions.

Since 1958 nest boxes have been constructed in a number of timber and tin designs and from recycled materials including WWII ammunition boxes and plastic feed drums.

A Field and Game Australia nest box has between 5 and 15 years of life depending on where it is installed.  Nest boxes need to be regularly checked, maintained and cleaned.
