Greens Push to Ban Duck Hunting in Tasmania

If this is successful it is only the thin edge of the wedge. The Greens have already signaled their intent to ban Wallaby hunting with shotguns and further restrictions on firearm ownership and fishing.

NEW SHOOTING CENTRE FOR VICTORIA - 4 MAY 2010
Field and Game Australia has applauded the decision to fund the first stage of a new multi-discipline shooting complex in Victoria.
Victorian Sports Minister James Merlino today released the details of $12.7 Million included in the State budget for the new facility.
Field and Game Australia CEO, Rod Drew said the funding is an excellent start.
“The money will ensure the acquisition of suitable land and the design of world class facilities for a number of shooting disciplines” said Mr Drew.
“Shotgun, rifle, pistol and other disciplines will have facilities that encourage more Victorians to try a range of sports shooting activities’” said Mr Drew.
“Thousands of Victorians own and enjoy firearms. This new facility will provide a venue for international standard competition across all the firearm sports.”
“The Victorian Labor Government has taken a very welcome first step in ensuring Victorian shooters can develop their skills to international and Olympic standard if they wish or simply enjoy their firearms in a comfortable and well designed environment,” said Mr Drew.
