Australia Post Remains Caught Up In the Myriad of Australian Firearms Laws
Australia Post has moved to clarify the rules for sending firearms or parts of firearms through the post and they have issued a new general set of guidelines for international postal items.
In September Australia Post also released an updated version of their “Dangerous & Prohibited Goods & Packaging Post Guide”.
This guide covers all manner of items that may not be sent through the post and attempts to address restrictions on items that may be generated by state based legislation.
Domestic laws pertaining to the postage of firearms are addressed on pages 31-32 of the attached guide.
Different rules apply and the transport of firearms is not getting any easier. Australia Post has tried to make it easier to find the information you need so this guide is a very good starting point. It is a large file so allow a few minutes for it to load.
Dangerous Goods Guide
Sending firearms to international destinations is not much easier. Again it’s a mixture of policies and laws at both ends of the mail service that make things difficult.
Australia Post has issued a customer advice on the matter.
